Rev. C. L. Hammonds, Jr.
Preacher, Poet & World War II Veteran
Rev C. L. Hammonds, Jr. is the son of a Pentecostal preacher and raised in a family of 7 siblings. His experience was shaped by his being raised in the Depression Era and his experience in World War II as a teenager.
He has been in ministry for 62 years and pastored churches in Newark, and Wilmington, DE and in San Jose, CA. He has been one of the preeminent Bible teaches in the Pentecostal ministry and particularly the Church of God in Christ. He has been the Dean of C.H. Mason Bible College, and over his life time has organized four Bible schools. His first one being in India right after being called to the ministry in February 1944.
The major emphasis in his teaching is to get the student into realization of who God is in their lives and what the Holy Spirit's job is to them in today’s challenging times.
His favorite Bible verse Psalm 51:10, Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
He is an award winning poet and author. His books include: Daniel Man and Prophet; Inspiration in General; Spending God; My Decades of Endurance and Survival. (An autobiography of the formative years of his life. It is now prepared for publishing in 2007.) He also has written several story fiction books.
You will find that Rev. Hammonds, like most World War II veterans, is a strong patriot. This will be evident in his patriot poems. For that group of individuals (and there are only a few left) fighting for freedom of this country in that war was the greatest act of sacrifice they could every do for our freedom. The world would certainly look very different today without their sacrifice and for many, they and their families paid the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE.
